All Are Invited to the Second Community Conversation on Housing

Half Moon Bay: Let’s Talk About Housing!

Half Moon Bay, CA – In July, about 100 community members joined together for a productive, thought-provoking and collaborative conversation about the housing issues we face on the Coastside. People spoke honestly about their hopes and concerns and how the issue of housing is affecting those who live and work in our community. The discussion explored both limitations and opportunities that exist for housing solutions, and several innovative and diverse approaches that could be explored further. You can read more about the first conversation here.

Now, we want to keep the conversation going. The second community conversation on housing is scheduled for:

Doors open at 6 pm for free community dinner
Conversation from 6:30 to 8:30 pm
Ted Adcock Community Center

RSVP: hmbtalks2.eventbrite.com

All are invited! We’re expecting many of those who participated in the July conversation to join us again. Whether you attended the July conversation or not, please come and contribute your experience, thoughts, and ideas to the discussion. It’s so important that all perspectives are represented!

At this Community Conversation, we’ll review key themes that emerged from the first session followed by a presentation on creative housing options with a focus on Half Moon Bay’s downtown core area. Most of the group’s time together will be in table discussions and sharing with all participants. The evening will include dinner and activities for children, and Spanish translation will be provided.

This is another wonderful opportunity for people from different parts of Half Moon Bay to talk, listen and learn together, focusing on the critical issue of housing in our community.

This community conversation is hosted by the City of Half Moon Bay and Home for All San Mateo County. Its purpose is to help us all gain a better understanding of the local housing situation in our community, share experiences and ideas, and explore how the community can work together to address Half Moon Bay’s housing needs.

Home for All (www.homeforallsmc.com) is a community collaborative addressing the housing challenge in San Mateo County by promoting the preservation and production of all types of housing through sharing information, promoting innovation, and convening the community.

Half Moon Bay applied for and was awarded a grant to pilot new approaches to community engagement on the topic of housing. The grant provides technical assistance from Home for All and consultant Common Knowledge Plus (www.ckgroup.org), as well as funds to help conduct engagement that is inclusive, informed, and sustained.

Located 28 miles south of San Francisco, the City of Half Moon Bay is a community of about 12,500 people, situated on the peninsula between forested hills and some of the most beautiful coastlines that California has to offer. Its historic downtown is home to numerous shops, art galleries, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, and other businesses, and its celebrated beaches and parks are wonders of nature, accessible to pedestrians, bicyclists, and equestrians. With its many activities and events, beautiful natural scenery, old-town charm, and abundance of retail and commercial services, Half Moon Bay is a regional destination. The City’s website is www.hmbcity.com.
