City Invites Students to Join “Future Leaders Civics Academy”
Half Moon Bay, CA – The City of Half Moon Bay is introducing a new program designed to offer our community’s youth the opportunity to experience and learn about the City’s operations and functions. The new Future Leaders Civics Academy program is for students in grades 8 – 12 who have an interest in getting great experience in how government works together with the community to provide services and programs which residents depend on. More information and the program application are online at www.hmbcity.com/youthcivics.
“This program offers students a behind-the-scenes look at what City staff and City Councilmembers do,” said Half Moon Bay Mayor Harvey Rarback. “They’ll get valuable local government experience with real-world examples, and be part of a mock City Council meeting – I encourage Half Moon Bay students to apply and participate in this eye-opening, informative, and valuable activity.”
Half Moon Bay’s Future Leaders Civics Academy takes place the evenings of August 29, September 5, and September 12, from 5 – 8 pm. Dinner is included at each session. The program will be a great addition to a student’s resume, and is available for community service credit. It also includes segments on public speaking and on best practices for resume writing and job applications.
Students must be incoming 8th-12th grade in the 2019-2020 school year, in the Cabrillo Unified School District, or be residents of the City of Half Moon Bay.
