Solid Waste Management Services and Rates

HALF MOON BAY, CA –
The City invites interested community members to learn about and offer their input into Half Moon Bay’s current and potential future solid waste management services and rates. Community feedback gathered at this meeting will be integrated into an upcoming Request for Proposals (RFP) for solid waste management contract services.

Half Moon Bay currently contracts with Republic Services (formerly Allied Waste) for collection of garbage, recycling, and green waste, disposal and processing of collected materials, and street sweeping. The City oversees the management and rate setting for this contract, which expires on December 31, 2017.

The City and its consultants will be preparing an RFP for solid waste management services, soliciting proposals from a variety of providers for the successor contract. The RFP is expected to be released to potential service providers in early 2017, and so it’s important to gather public input now to ensure that the community’s needs, interests, and concerns regarding future solid waste services are known and suitably incorporated into the RFP.

At the October 20 meeting, participants will gain an overview of the services currently provided and the existing service rates, hear about the various legislative mandates which may be requiring changes in services, discuss desired additional services, and learn about the next steps in this process. Spanish translation will be available at this meeting.

Community members are also invited to offer their input on this issue via an online survey:

Located 28 miles south of San Francisco, the City of Half Moon Bay is a community of about 11,500 people, situated on the peninsula between forested hills and some of the most beautiful coastlines that California has to offer. Its historic downtown is home to numerous shops, art galleries, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, and other businesses, and its celebrated beaches and parks are wonders of nature, accessible to pedestrians, bicyclists, and equestrians. With its many activities and events, beautiful natural scenery, old-town charm, and abundance of retail and commercial services, Half Moon Bay is a regional destination.
