Neighbors Encouraged to Hold Block Parties on "National Night Out" - August 1
Neighborhoods can get a $100 grant to help with block party costs

Half Moon Bay, CA - National Night Out is the annual nationwide community-building campaign encouraging police/community partnerships and neighbor-to-neighbor connections, helping to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live.

The City of Half Moon Bay encourages local participation by inviting residents to hold block parties on Tuesday, August 1, and reconnect with their neighbors. And, the City will help jump-start block parties by offering a $100 gift card that will help offset the costs of putting on a great neighborhood block party. A short application is required, available here (PDF).

This small grant to participating neighborhood teams can be used to pay for food, beverages, decorations, rent tables and chairs, or whatever their block party needs to be a success. Resident organizers just need to fill out and submit the application to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. "National Night Out is a wonderful opportunity for Half Moon Bay residents to get together, meet new people and re-connect with neighbors, and just spend a couple of relaxing hours in an informal social setting," said Half Moon Bay City Manager Magda González. "Getting to know and staying in touch with neighbors enhances neighborhood safety and well-being, and makes it easier for neighbors to look out for each other - and that's great for our entire community." Depending on the number of block parties and staff availability, the City will try to schedule a visit by a fire truck or Sheriff's vehicle. Most neighbors hold their National Night Out events between 6 and 9 pm.

On National Night Out, neighborhoods across the nation host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other various community events. Visit the National Night Out website for more information about this nationwide effort.
