HERITAGE TREES

The City of Half Moon Bay recognizes the value of preserving and enhancing the number and variety of trees on both public and private property as essential to preserving the health and aesthetic beauty of the community.

A heritage tree is now defined in the Municipal Code, Section 7.40 as the following:

• A tree located on public or private property, exclusive of eucalyptus, with a trunk diameter of 12 inches or circumference of approximately 38 inches measured at 48 inches above ground level: or
• A tree or stand of trees so designated by resolution of the City Council based on its finding of special historical, environmental or aesthetic value: or
• Any street tree located in the public right of way along the entire length of Main Street.
