The Public Works Department provides various services to ensure safe living conditions and enhance life quality in Half Moon Bay.  The engineering staff develops master plans, prepares designs and studies, administers construction contracts for the improvements to the City’s buildings and grounds, streets, sidewalks, trails, parks, parking lots, drainage facilities, sewer collection and street lighting system.  Public Works Maintenance staff maintains all City buildings and grounds, sidewalk trees and median landscaping, drainage and sewer collection system, parks and tot-lots, beaches and trails and other City public infrastructure.

The Public Works staff provides assistance during emergencies, City-sponsored special events, code enforcement activities, clean water program compliance, solid waste management and recycling, and applications for transportation related grants. Staff also assists the public with permit services for encroachment within public streets and easements for utility trenches and driveways. Additionally, staff prepares the sewer service charges that are placed on the annual San Mateo County Secured Tax Bills.
